Jefferson County Schools: Preschool Attendance Guidelines
STEP 1: Student accumulates 5 unexcused absences- 5-day letter mailed by school attendance clerk.
STEP 2: Student accumulates 7 unexcused absences- Contact with parent is made by Family Resource Center
STEP 3: Student accumulates 10 unexcused absences-
- Teacher provides documentation listed below to Family Resource Center person for your school.
- Preschool teacher to mail 10 day letter to parent.
Documentation should include:
- School System’s Name
- School Name
- Teacher’s Name
- Reason for Request
- Number of days program has operated, number of days child has been in attendance, last date of attendance.
- Interventions implemented to resolve the issue:
- Contacted the family via phone or through a home visit
- Scheduled conference with family and reviewed written attendance policy emphasizing consequences of non-attendance
- Developed a written corrective plan of action to address student’s non-attendance.
STEP 4: Pre-K Supervisor will submit documentation to State Department of Early Learning via email
STEP 5: State Department of Early Learning will notify Pre-K Supervisor of decision
STEP 6: Local School Principal will notify parent of final decision by a certified letter.
