The Greasers Final Performance, March 2010

Although there were two school performances prior–Our Town, with auditions open to the entire school, and The Crucible, performed by Mr. Noonkesser and Mrs. Hodge’s Combined Studies’ students, the annual JCHS senior play began in the fall of 2002 on a trip to the Barter Theatre in Virginia.  Mrs. Noonkesser’s senior English class and Mrs. Hodge’s …. and they decided to invite the senior class to auditions for a performance of the musical version of Pygmalion–My Fair Lady.

In the fall of 2005, Andrew Alder joined the staff to serve as music director, and Liza Rutherford of East Tennessee Dance Academy came on board in the fall of 2004 with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

The play is funded wholly by donations from members of the community and ticket sales.

Auditions are usually held in late September and students begin rehearsing immediately for the spring show.  Because our practice space is very limited and both the teachers and sponsors have many other responsibilities during the school day, practices occur after school and on weekends in the classrooms, courtyard, commons area, and in the homes of those with pianos.
