Maury Middle School’s new P.O.P. anti-bullying program encourages students, teachers, parents, and community members to take a united stand against bullying. The program is designed to approach anti-bullying methods through the teaching of empathy and socially accepted behavior with weekly classroom meetings in social settings beginning August 2011. Students will have the opportunity to discuss bullying issues, as well as participate in role playing and other anti-bullying activities throughout the school year.

The P.O.P. program is based on the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. It is the most researched and best known bullying prevention program available today. With over thirty-five years of research and successful implementation all over the world, it is a whole-school program that has been proven to prevent or reduce bullying throughout a school setting (Olweus, 2007.)
